He smiled as she expressed pleasure at his reaction, adding that she wasn't any different than anyone else, but if he thought that she was pretty, she was happy.
"I like it when you're happy," he said. And it was true. He liked seeing her happy. It made him happy. Then he allowed her to take off his boots even as he removed his jacket and shirt, tossing them on the floor as she stated that they would never believe he was under the covers if he was still clothed. "So, so true," he agreed, his lips curving into a smile. He would never force Marina into anything of course, but they had to keep up appearances even if they were just talking.
He smiled as she snuggled against her, saying that she would do her best to help him as she always did.
"Thank you, my Love," he murmured. She really is beautiful and selfless, he thought to himself. Not for the first time, he was amazed at how much faith his wife had in him. How could she be so devoted to him when he could be so cruel to others? And why did always want to be gentle when it came to her? These were the thoughts that swirled around in his brain but he didn't bother asking them out loud.
Looking down, he saw that she had closed her eyes and a soft smile graced his features as he reached down to stroke her hair. He loved it when she got this way. She really did bring out the best in him. And it was something he was starting to enjoy.
"Rest, Love," he murmured. They could always play later....when things weren't so stressfull and they were both in the mood. For now, he was content just to lie here with her, listening to her heartbeat.
