(OOC This thread takes place before House of Shadows)
It was a rare thing for Mari to have free time to speak with anyone but given the rumors she had been hearing she figured she needed more information on what the dragons were doing in Balfaer. She’d often found that hiring members of the Brigade was useful and this would be a good way to not alarm anyone unnecessarily.
Gael had informed her of information in the past and she knew he was a good being. His story actually gave her hope for her own children. Gael had managed to avoid the traps that most vampires fell prey to. He kept his hungers in check and had integrity. She admired that. It was nice to be able to trust someone who didn’t have an agenda.
Glancing about her garden, Mari glanced at the dark sky. It was evening and the sky looked a deep cobalt blue. She had lighting in her garden that showed the brass that enclosed the garden to good effect. If truth be told she hadn’t constructed it. She preferred an open area for gardens but Vlad had built the brass cage around it early in her time in Sylthanus when she was still pregnant with Micah from her first marriage. Draven had tried to help her escape and although Vlad had brought her back and been kind to her the garden had been encased in brass and glass ever after that. She’d been too dispirited to protest it and as the years passed she’d used it as a way to remind herself that others could be hurt if she tried to leave this place.
Two millennia on she’d lost almost all sadness at seeing the brass cage overhead. It was actually quite intricate and beautiful when one took the time to look at it and it had been bespelled never to get dirty or tarnished. Even when it rained the water sheeted off of it harmlessly. As she waited for Gael she checked the flowers she grew in the garden. They were native to Sylthanus and one of the few beautiful things in this area. The flowers had adapted and would bloom at night as well as briefly during the day, they fed off the toxic fumes of the realm and, as Mari had discovered, slowly purified it.
In this one area she actually felt connected to what she was and it was all the work of those hard working plants she’d cultivated all those years ago. She thought of them as a promise from the Creator that she would not always be sad in this place and they made her smile. Turning slightly the rustle of the red organza gown was quiet as she waited for Gael to make his way to the garden. There would be guards to escort him and as always guards to keep an eye out in case something were to happen. Even with Vlad back he never left her without someone in the room she was in unless she was sleeping (and even then there was a guard at the door of the room to make sure no one entered without authorization).
She felt bad that Gael would have to go through all the hoops just to see her but she needed the information that only he could bring her. She needed to know what was going on with the dragons and see what their plans were.
