history-
In the Ancient Times, long before Dragons ever came to Yalanze, the Fire Dragons had the most fierce and powerful army ever assembled. Upon birth, eggs were inspected by the Elders of the Fire Clan, and if they sensed any imperfection in an egg, even just the slightest, then the eggs would be crushed and burned. The leader of the Fire Clan, Dragon Lord Nergal, enforced this more than any other. During his reign, he was considered among the most corrupt and ruthless. Constantly threatened by assassinations, three in which had claimed three different champions, or Kaal in the Dragon language, Nergal sought to use his own bloodline to create the perfect Kaal. Mating with a celestial dragon, the Dragon Lord was given a son and daughter. From the moment that bother siblings hatched, they were forged in the ways of the Fire Dragons, a decision that nearly all, even the Elders, believed to be far too early for any child to begin. Neither child was given a name at birth. As was the custom of all Fire Dragons during this time, they had to earn a name, rather than be bestowed by one at birth. The boy and girl grew quick to learn the harshness that is becoming of a Fire Dragon’s life. The boy, however, showed a resilience and willpower not seen from any of the other warriors in the Fire Clan. He grew to understand the value of honor and loyalty to one’s fellow warrior, and the harshness of the rod when failing to learn such hardships.
In time, the boy and girl began to mature, and Lord Nergal decided that it was time to put them through the trials of Warriorhood at an early age. It was here, when the boy was sent out into the harsh landscape of the Fire Dragon’s home world, that he began to learn more about not just himself, but his own kind. During his trials in isolation, he came across one of the sacred, volcanic mountains of the Bahlaan. They were among the most sacred of mountains, even amongst other Dragon clans. It was even said that it was the resting place of the creature that brought forth the first Dragons. As the boy approached the mountains, he heard a voice beckon to him. Whispering for him to come closer. As he did, he received visions about the future, and what his father truly wanted: To breed the perfect warrior to lead his army to enslave the other dragon clans. The closer he approached, the stronger the visions. The boy learned that he would be known as the, “Faal Kaal”, the “Hun’Drog”, or as he would ultimately be called, Samael.
The boy fled, running away from the Bahlaan mountains, and ran for ten whole days before finally disregarding what he saw as merely another part of his trials of survival.
Years passed, and the boy became a man, returning from the harsh badlands of the Fire Dragons, and returning to his people a warrior. By his side, his sibling returned as well from her own trials. Pleased at what he discovered, Nergal bestowed both children with the names that they had earned at last: Samael, and Isolde. The moment Nergal gave him his name, Samael realized that what he saw long ago was not due to hunger, or thirst, but that the visions were indeed true. It was then, Samael decided that it was time for him to return to the Bahlaan mountains, and reveal the rest of his destiny.
The trek was as long and difficult as it had been when he was a child, but Samael was prepared, due to years of training. In these times, it was forbidden to fly in these sacred lands. When he reached the mountains and approached them as he did all those years before, he felt a stronger presence there than as he had as a child. It was the same presence, only this time, the voice beckoned to him even clearer than before, and it was at this point that Samael did something that he never did the last time he was this close: He entered the caves of the Bahlaan mountains. The deeper the dragon traveled, the more he heard the voice, until arriving to the heart of the mountain, after a three days journey. Inside the heart, was a pool of lava, and what was surrounding the pool was something that Samael could not begin to believe. Standing before him was the most sacred of his kind. The very thing that began his kind, but this was no dragon. No, this was a being that predated even the gods that the dragons worshipped. The Old One, Bormah. The crystallized form of the Primordial irradiated power that hit Samael like an x-ray, but also overwhelmed his senses and power. Suddenly, the voice that had beckoned to him for so long finally answered with two words, “At Last…”
Suddenly, a fiery colored mist seeped from the mouth of this unnatural creature. Slithering through the air, the mist reached Samael and within moments, his body was flooded with visions unlike any before. Visions of the past, and of his future. This was a power that was overcoming him, and infusing with his very being. When the mist had fully merged with Samael’s essence, the Fire Dragon stood more powerful and more focused than he had been before, and his mission became clear to him.
That very day, Samael returned once again to his kingdom, just in time to watch his father mass together the army that would march across the ancient world of dragons and enslave everyone. Unable to watch his own father enslave the world, Samael used his newfound power to decimate his father, crowning himself as the new Dragon Lord. Upon seeing this new display of power, nobody dared challenge the new Dragon Lord. He then approached his sister, offering her the place of second in command to his kingdom, to amass the army to unify dragon-kind.
Samael’s rule became more violent and ruthless. While his clan was and always would be a clan of warriors, the power of the old one within him caused him to demand much from the other dragons. Soon, like it would have been with his father, war broke out between the Fire Dragons and the other dragon clans. Isolde begged her brother to see reason, but it was not until he was close to killing her did he realize that the essence was taking hold of him. Consulting all of his seers, he learned that the power inside of him was unstable and that it would allow the Old One Bormah to return to the world. However, it would require love to stabilize the power within, and give him control over himself again. This, “Other” would be Samael’s anchor to his soul, and had the power to either grant him strength, or strip it from his very being. However, before Samael could embark on his quest to find this, “Other”, the gods stepped in. Using their great power, they banished Samael to a slumber in-between reality, fixed on the location of his fellow dragons. The gods knew that with the power of an Old One coursing through his body, that they would not be able to hold him forever, but at least long enough in hopes of finding a way to remove the essence from his body.
Eons passed, and until a thousand years ago, the Dragons left their homeworld for Yalanze. It wasn’t until recently, that the gods lost their purchase over Samael’s prison, awakening the Dragon on the world where his people were located. Samael lives again.
