The Fae
The fae are rarely seen on Yalanze and that is how they like it. Long ago when humans traveled to the planet the fae joined them in their journey. In the years that it took the colonists to settle down and build communities the fae quietly existed on their own. Most people figured that the people that disappeared had been killed by the other races, little did they know that this “disappearing act” was the fae coming together in this new world of Yalanze. On this planet they had power and could exist without the need of belief by man and so they formed their own groups as they had of old.
These places lay hidden in plain sight in every kingdom in the land. Humans and the other races pass by them daily and never even see the homes that the fae have built for themselves. As they had in the past, the fae came in a variety of types and races. The barriers that defined them on Earth still dictated their lives but this time they could live under the nose of most of the creatures of Yalanze.
Access to this realm without fae magic is impossible for only those with the gift or who are carried along can see the world within and without the planet. A realm that is connected and yet separate from all of the other kingdoms.
The struggle to find rulers has been a hard one for the fae and many still bear the scars of the secret wars they fought for power. As with the merfolk, fae come in a wide range of sub species; Some friendly and some not but all of them tricksters from their core. They will often make deals that only benefit them and on a moonlit night it is best to not be caught out of doors lest you fall into their fairy rings and become trapped between worlds forever.
Recently, the use of iron has begun to weaken the fae. It is the bane of their existence and loosens their hold on Yalanze. Time will tell if iron becomes as widely used as it was on Earth. The fae are set to make sure that never happens.
Fae Powers
- Illusion: Fae can make themselves appear human to all senses even if their native form is something different all together. Likewise they can make others believe the illusions they cast upon them. This ability is often used to trick humans and other species.
- Fairy Ring: The ability to trap others in a circle that they cannot escape. Fairy rings also allow them access to their realm. When a person is trapped in a fairy ring they are effectively in stasis until the castor returns to release them. This could take centuries and explains the extended disappearance of some humans from their homes.
- Immortality: Fae are effectively immortal and do not die easily unless iron is used against them.
- Shapeshifting (To human and back): Fae have the ability to change their shape from their natural look to human.
- Blessings of Danu: The fae often have a gift that is associated with their form. This can vary with the type of fae they are. It is woven into their being and is fundamental as breathing to them.
