Strengths:

• Cool under pressure. Its hard to make Mari truly scared at this stage. She has her fears but they are not of anything she has seen at court.
  
  
• Singing – Her voice is from heaven and can soothe those around court. Its one of the reasons they tolerate her. If they knew what she really was she would be kept under lock and key more than she already is.
  
  
• Healing – Being an angel means she can heal others of their injuries but there are few that need it in the land of the dead.

History:

Mari is probably one of the oldest beings on the planet. Asked to come to this world by the Father so that she could take care of his children, she never dreamed she would end up so far from home. Upon hitting the planet she realized her connection to heaven was severely weakened and that the humans were not the only race she was to guide. Dealing with things as best as she could she managed not to get herself killed and helped the Yalanzens fight off the Zombie Apocalypse and the Demonic Death plague. It was during this Zombie uprising that her husband Ian was murdered. For in an attempt to rid a village of zombies he sacrificed himself for the greater good.

He never realized his wife was pregnant. As she fought the zombie hordes a dark figure appeared and rescued her from certain death. Vlad came into her life at her darkest hour and she was completely at a loss as to what to do. Vlad, for his part, was completely besotted with her, believing her to be the reincarnation of his dead wife, and while she slept, clipped her wing tips and cast a spell upon her that prevented her from leaving him. When she woke from her injuries there was little she could do but try to make the best of the situation.

Vlad came back to his homeland victorious. He has wrested the most beautiful woman he had ever known from certain death and she owed her life to him. The other vampires wanted to examine his prize closely but the drawback that even Vlad never anticipated was that he would be insanely jealous of anyone getting too close to her. By this point he had fed from her and the rush of it sealed her fate. Not that she herself was damned for it but Vlad would never think of releasing such a source of power.

It wasn’t long before her pregnancy began to show and Vlad, in one of his more compassionate moments promised that the child would be cared for. He did not promise that she could raise the child however and so hours after her son was born he allowed one angel into his home to take the child while she slept. Letting her believe that it had been kidnapped and he would search for it.

For many centuries after that Mari lived in a tortured haze. She existed as best she could in an environment where death was the coin of the realm and slowly, very slowly, she began to care for Vlad. She had been grateful for being rescued and even she could see how he struggled under the weight of his burdens. Eventually, he began to trust her and forgot to clip her wings each night. Or so she thought.

Vlad, however, had much bigger plans. He secretly began working on a spell to make Mari fertile with him. He gave up all his other conquests on the side in order to focus on begetting an heir. And one night it happened. Mari conceived his child. It was then that she realized that this was far greater a binding than any prior to it. Not only did her son’s safety rest in his hands. For he knew where he was but refused to tell her, but she was carrying his child and knew that her chance to bring the child to the light would be slim.

For all his cruelty and schemes Mari knew one thing Vlad did not. Deep down he wearied of his role and wished for an heir to take his burdens from him so he might live in some semblance of peace. He felt remorse, for after centuries of being so close to her her healing worked on him as much as his coercion had worked on her. He was just as trapped by her as he was by him. Indeed her nature and being what she was meant she could not hold anger for him for very long because she saw that he focused the vampire into being more than mindless blood suckers. He gave them dignity and honor twisted though it was.

When Vlad dissappeared to become the God of Death Mari spent many years keeping the kingdom together till his return. She was unable to stop the battle that was on the horizon between the vampires and the dragons and sacrificed herself to keep the war from destroying everything and everyone. Now she recovers from being reborn as a Goddess while her husband and children mourn her death and the war rages on.
