• Sensing – She can sense what someone is just by looking at them. She knows their race if she has ever run into them but she may not always say anything about it.

• Calm under pressure – Merry is a cool cucumber. No matter how dense the student or stressful the situation she will always pull through at least until no one is looking.

History:

Merry grew up as any human might in Mythregal. Her parents ran the local lumbermill and were quite well off with their ability to grow trees seemingly overnight. Everything was going well for the family till the whispers of witchcraft began circulating. Soon, Oliver began plotting to get rid of the family and make a bid for their mill. So one night, under the cover of darkness, he hired what he thought were assassins but were in fact vampires looking for an excuse to feast on the living.

As Merry slept in her bed the vampires crept in, putting the whole family in a deep sleep so that they would not be found out. One by one they killed the family, deciding to kidnap Merry in a bride raid since she was sixteen. The two vampires fought and argued and as they were distracted, Merry’s mother, who was not dead, used the last of her power to summon a fireball and told Merry to run for it, waking her from her dreamless sleep as she died. Merry awoke terrified for she had seen her family die in her dreams and knew what the vampires had in store for her. She hid in the cellar and only the fact that the flames overtook the vampires saved her life.

Merry would have left the safety of the cellar for it did not get destroyed in the fire, except that she heard Oliver’s thoughts about being glad that the witches had all burned to death. She knew if she left the cellar she was as good as dead. After a few days she slipped out during the cover of darkness and fled to the Brigade throwing herself on their mercy. The Brigade for its part, took her in because they did not like Oliver’s tendency of murdering those who were different.

Merry did not disappoint them; she excelled at her craft and soon became a Division Leader with a group of Mages under her command. Now she helps train new recruits, deal with housing for the Brigade and hopes to one day avoid the vampires on the off chance the attempt to bride raid her got out.
