Merry fainted against the tree gently as Sed took her power. Her curls spread out around her like a perfumed chestnut cloak. Her breathing slowed down almost to an imperceptible level and her heart slowed down in reaction to the departure of her life essance. She began to slowly grow pale the longer Sed held her power.

The world around them trembled as he worked with powers that were not his, the very nature of the task calling alerts throughout the Brigade. Alerts began to sound as this unsanctioned use of power triggered the magical wards in the Headquarters. Merry's personal protections began to scream for every medic, warrior and mage within reason as her power ran through Sed as a conduit.

Clouds began to collect as a dark vortex seemed to herald Baccus' arrival onto Yalanze. Lightning flashed overhead as a torrential rain began to fall, eclipsing the sun as black clouds rolled in with supernatural speed. The world was angry that its conduit was injured and if Sed did not release the power to her it would kill him. She was a living embodiment of the planet and it would not allow such an abomination to continue.

When he released her power into her, Merry began to come to life slowly with a gasp as guards ran towards them and grabbed up Sedayius's unconscious form and Merry's near unconscious form.

"Take them to Bellator. He'll know what to do with him and should know enough about the flows to help Commander Lovelace." the guard ordered as Merry blinked and looked at Sed in confusion. Her mind was fuzzy and she did not know what to do. Mutely she let the guards take her to Bellator to sort out what had happened as the world settled down and the weather went back to the spring day that was blooming.

Bellator was about to begin eating a meal after a strenuous training session specifically for the captians. Bellator claimed it to be leadership building and proficiency practice but the captians viewed it more as Bellator finding an excuse to pummel them at any challenge they threw at him. Bellator couldn't deny he found certain enjoyment in the lessons though he would argue he made it as fair as possible and he always let the captians decide which challenge was best to start with. Bellator almost had a chicken leg to his lips when some soldiers bolted in frantic. Bellator had felt the disruption in the area and heard the alarms but it was something they practiced for on a daily basis, trained for, simulated, and on occasion actually experienced. He had faith in his men but also understood that he wouldn't have been sought out if things were not of great concern. The soldiers explained what had happened and how they found Merry and a man unconscious next to her. There were also reports of possibly another man leaving the area during the incident but he was long gone by the time everything was said and done. Bellator rushed out to a medical wing of the fighters main training building. The men gently set Merry down on a soft bed and some of the field medics began to look for serious symptoms and begin to prepare common pain relieving herbs. Bellator looked worriedly at Merry then felt rage begin to burn up inside him. The soldier brought in a man, he was unconscious and Bellator could only assume he was the one with Merry the whole time and had a feeling he was responsible.

Something else about him threw Bellator off though, his scent, he wasn't human, wasn't native, wasn't anything Bellator was familiar with. Considering the Brigade was made up of just about every species this was something of great concern to Bellator. Bellator barked at his men in a strong baritone like voice "No! Get that thing out of here and away from Commander Lovelace. Bring him to the brig and double the guard on him. He can be treated there but he will not leave until I question him." The soldiers quickly obeyed without question carrying Sedaiyus out. "And see if Commander Lovelaces mages might assist in a magical means of binding him to his cell. We don't know what he is capable of or if stone and iron cell bars and walls will hold him for sure if he should wake before I arrive." Bellator looked back to Merry concerned and angry though at the moment he had no where to really vent nor did he really have the time. "Everyone clear the room." One of the field medics in charge looked at Bellator confusedly. Bellator glared almost through the man which almost immediately made the man run out in fear. When the room was cleared Bellator made his way to the side of Merry's bed. He placed his hands as softly has his rough warrior conditioned hands could be upon her head and he focused deeply. He drew upon the power of the dragon he was to heal her mind and revitalize what he could within her. After a few minutes he sat patiently just staring at Merry unsure of whether he was mad at her or still worried about her well being.

"You have a pure heart Commander Lovelace, it is not something you should be faulted for as it is such a rare commodity to have. But you seek the good in all with false hope. Not all can be trusted just because they haven't given reason not to. Things could have been very different had you gone any further with that man. If you had warded him away from the start maybe all this could have been avoided." Bellator tried not to look at Merry when he spoke trying to hold onto being mad knowing he wouldn't be able to be mad if he looked at her. "I am glad I was here to help. You have nothing to fear or worry about anymore. I will find out what is going on and make sure you are safe. I would not take it well if you were to perish so soon. As long as I still draw breath I will do my best to ensure this never happens again. If you are to die it will be long after my own death I assure you of that." Bellator was a stern warrior and sentimentality wasn't his strong suit. But it pained him that he was late in the events that had occurred. Had he been paying better attention to the brigade as a whole instead of just his soldiers perhaps the mages wouldn't be waiting eagerly to hear on the health of their commander. Though they were the same rank and of different sections Bellator felt responsible for everyone within the brigade. As a dragon he believed it was his duty to protect and guide the other species into similar greatness that he saw his own kind wielding. Bellator called for the men to return. He had Merrys hand in his as he gently held it hoping he would'nt crush what seemed like such fragile and soft hands in his own. "I want an entire platoon dedicated to the protection of Commander Lovelace. Everywhere she is there will be a secured perimeter, patrol of the inner area of that perimeter, and personal guard with her. If anything is to happen to her expect the same to happen to you. Also her orders are to be taken as if they were my own with the exception of her telling you to leave herself unsecured which will be ignored unless I approve."

Mages ran to do Bellator's bidding as they made their way to the cell that Sedaiyus was held in. They quickly warded the cell to make sure that while he could be treated, he would not escape to cause harm to another. They said nothing as they worked, not wishing to further complicate a difficult situation.

In the hospital wing, Merry slowly opened her eyes to see Bellator looking at her with concern as he chastised her. She had the grace to look sheepish. "I did not mean to worry you so. He seemed worried about his mother and I thought the kiss he asked for would sooth him." the tone of her voice made it plain that to her she thought this no more than soothing a child's hurt knee or consoling someone who was sad. Any romantic or lustful intent was not present. "I had no other intentions." she said softly. Biting her lip softly as she looked at Bellator.

She was still trying to piece together what had happened as he spoke, hoping to give him some information for his trouble, "He was rifling through the library looking for spells to deal with his mother." she smiled as he spoke of how much it pained him and impulsively hugged him. This was nothing new for Merry. She was always good natured and a very nurturing being. She did make sure to only hug Bellator, when he allowed such, when there was no one to give him grief over it, "Thank you for helping me. I appreciate your concern." she said as she regarded him then rested as he took her hand in his own, "You don't think anything else will happen do you? He got what he wanted I assume. There is no need to be so cautious is there?" she was still tired and not thinking as clearly as she should but she always hated using Brigade resources unless she needed to.

Bellator sighed faintly in both relief and guilt. He considered everything that had happened and looked at Merry reassuringly "For you, yes, it is over. That man will not find his way to you again nor will anything happen to you because of him. But whether or not it is over for him, it is hard to say. Scouts reported an individual leaving the area during the midst of the chaos. No one could confirm where this individual came from or who it was nor can they find any trace of someone close by at this time. If I had to speculate though, I would say what ever the man did had failed to go according to his plans. Something went wrong and someone else benefited from it. From what I have been told a portal had been opened. I suppose it wouldn't be impractical to believe perhaps something came through that portal, and whether the man expected that individual to come or not, he was illfully prepared. Until we find out more about the man you were with but even more troubling the person that escaped the scene of the act I fear things may circle back upon us. But as I said you have nothing to worry yourself over. We are prepared now and ready. Once I get the last pieces of this puzzle from the man everything will be much clearer and better actions can be taken." Bellator smiled at Merry "You are stronger and braver than I initially gave you credit for Merry. I apologize for that but can honestly say I am very pleased I was wrong in this instance. Had it been any other in your place I cannot say they would have faired as well as you had. I am honored to serve with you and blessed to have you in what I would consider this to be my family. Never forget that if you need anything at all, all you need to do is ask. I would die for you if it was asked of me. Never underestimate how precious your life is. Your intent is always pure and your heart and kindness infinitely stretched but your life means so much more than any of that."

Bellator thought for a moment wondering how he could have missed the details he had. Had he grown too soft, too lenient, too.....human. He had been greatly distracted by the human prisoner he had met upon his visit to Sylthanus and his meeting with the uncooperative vampire king. He allowed his attention and instincts to waiver for too long and it almost cost the brigade dearly. Bellator began to wonder what his offensive move would be, defensively he was doing all he could. But he would not let this stand. If this man was everything Bellator thought, upon his interrogations end, the man would be killed. Bellator had no toleration for demons or their wicked influence upon the world. It may had been vampire that attacked his family whilst he first left to embrace the brigade. But it was demons who assisted and orchestrated the assault. Bellator was young a impulsive back then. He knew better now. No demon could positively effect this world or the people in it in his eyes. That alone was reason enough to kill them without mercy. The only reason this man was even still breathing was because of the knowledge he possessed that Bellator required. "Merry, was there anything you needed to know or needed from the man we found with you before I speak with him?" Bellator asked encase there was for she wouldn't have the opportunity after he was done as he planned to kill him. But he held that part out so not to trouble Merry. Despite what the man did he was unsure how Merry felt about it. She was indeed a kind soul, she might not wish death upon the man despite his actions. It was something Bellator both admired greatly about her but at the same time drove him crazy as well. Never the less it was what it was.

Relaxing against the pillows, Merry exhaled softly and looked at him with a blush to her cheeks, "You flatter me, Bellator. I was too trusting. I shall try to be a bit more canny in my questioning of strangers. He kept dodging my questions and trying to shift the conversation. Sadly, I fell for it." she exhaled softly and beamed at him. "I enjoy your company as well, Bellator. You are one of the few people I feel completely safe with." Given how she had had to flee Mythregal from the Mayor this was a compliment. She still had nightmares from what had happened and her fear of vampires matched Bellator's desire to kill them.

"I would like to speak to him. I wish to know who walked through the portals. It is not a good thing that he opened a portal untrained. It probably burned his channels and possibly injured him a great deal. We should be gentle. Channeling such power is its own punishment. It burns badly if one is not trained in how to become one with the energy and has not got the mental discipline to focus it."

She slowly tried to rise, her gown flowing about her as she felt the world right itself properly, "We should speak with him. See what sort of person he is and what he truly wants." she said as she straightened her gown and smoothed her hair to look more presentable.

Merry eventually recovers from her injuries with time and help. The issues between Bellator and Sedaiyus end in a mystery that only time will tell.
