Demons
“Never trust a demon. He has a hundred motives for anything he does ... Ninety-nine of them, at least, are malevolent.” ― Neil Gaiman, The Sandman, Vol. 1: Preludes and Nocturnes
Wherever humans go demons follow and so when Yalanze was first settled so too did demons come with them. At first they whispered in their ears like a seductive song, coaxing them to do evil things and be tempted by what they didn't have and this gave them a power that was beyond any they found on earth because Yalanze was a world were magic existed and the power of belief has such strength that in time, it could give physical shape to mankind's deepest fears.
The trigger for the demonic manifestation was a plague that broke out and caused Yalanzens to go into psychotic rages and kill each other. The afflicted died in pain and agony babbling in weird tongues and acting possessed and in reality, they were. The plague brought with it hallucinations and those hallucinations gave the demons the power to possess the weak willed easily. First the demons claimed they were witches so that the true witches would be hunted, then seeing the misery and power that generated one by one they claimed each of the races had brought this misery upon mankind.
All would have been lost except for one simple thing, the demons really hadn't cared about man, they just tortured them to receive the energy to manifest in physical form when the portal finally opened up and spat them out of hell thus freeing them to claim their original bodies and leave their human hosts.
Now demons roam Yalanze free of their chains of hell and woe be it to any Yalanzen who meets them. Death follows soon after because after all with the vices comes power. And vice is the sweetest wine of all.
Demons can come in a wide range of types and viewpoints. One thing ties them all together though, they can all take a human seeming and few humans truly ever see them for what they are till it is too late. Demons can have any number of abilities and powers but they typically only get five unless they are unique in some way. Their physical forms cannot usually house more than this. Here are a few demonic powers but this is just a small sample of the powers available
Basic Powers:
- Possession: Demons have the power to take control of a hosts body, banishing their concious mind to a shadowy prison within their own bodies. Possession can only be ended with an exorcism performed by a Mage or an Angel. Death also works to end a possession, though the host body becomes as hard to kill as the Demons true form.
- Coercion: The ability to manipulate people by using their fears and desires against them. This allows a Demon, combined with Telepathy, to read a person and know exactly how they think.
- Illusion: A Demon has the ability to conjure illusions and force it's victims to see whatever it wishes. Normally a Demon only conjures illusions to confuse it's enemy or strike fear and they often consist of an opponents worst fears.
- Immortality: As it states, a Demon will live forever immune to natural causes of death, and the only known way to kill a Demon is to possess it's name or to exorcise the Demon from the host and banish it.
- Life force Tapping: The ability to slowly syphon off the life force of the host that is possessed. This will eventually kill the host if it continues for too long.
- Telepathy: A Demon can read the thoughts of most creatures unless they are protected by their own psychic gifts. Unlike most Telepathy, however, a Demon can read more than just what you're thinking at the moment and see your most private thoughts.
Advanced Demonic Powers:

- Seduction
