Ghosts
The ghosts arrived shortly after the first generation of settlers began to die off. No one is certain why ghosts remain with the living after they have died, after all there are no longer burials but the most educated religious scholars speculate that ghosts are the gate keepers between heaven and hell and it is they who ferry the dead between the portals and realms. Indeed, those who have come through the portal have a higher chance of seeing a ghost because they are sensitive to the energies around themselves. It is unknown whether a ghost is a memory fragment or an actual being since the ability to communicate with them is rare.
All that is known is that the portals energies feed them and help sustain their forms. Many ghosts choose to stay near the Brigade for this reason alone after all who wants to be around a turn of the century town where the most exciting thing is a barn raising? This does not mean that ghosts do not travel, on the contrary, it means they travel great distances at times to get a message across. Time and space mean little to a ghost considering their tendency to be non corporeal. Only on rare occasions can a ghost manifest a physical form and that tends to be when the powers that be allow them to do so for reasons known only to themselves.
Ghosts can have up to five powers but after the fifth power they must transform into another being of some type because they have too much energy not to become permanently corporeal.
Beginning Powers:
- Phasing: The ability to pass through solid objects both living and non. This will give living beings the sense of being cold.
- EMP Generation: The ability to emit an electromagnetic field that can shut down vampiric technology. This also produces a "cold spot" in the room.
- Illusion: Ghosts can appear however they wish given that they are non corporeal. This can be used to sooth as well as terrify depending on their nature.
- Plasma Ball Generation: The ability to create and throw a ball of energy at a target. This is their primary source of self defense when cornered.

- Teleportation for advanced Spirits

- Life force manipulation (Healing or stealing)
