Gifted

The gifted are those who develop mind powers through either intense study, a gift from birth or through some other means. Many confuse the gifted with witches but there is one hard and fast rule to separate the two.

A gifted uses the power within themselves to manipulate their environment. A witch uses the power outside themselves to manipulate their environment. The debate over which group has it easier has never been solved because there is no one true answer. Because gifted have such a high mental control of themselves due to their abilities they are often socially awkward as a result. They are the Yalanzen that doesn't know how to milk a cow or shoe a horse and most of the time, they are outcast at an early age due to perceived incompetence.

This would be denying their untapped potential of course. Gifted are not ignorant, it is more likely that with their mind powers the trifles of every day life do not interest them as much. They are too busy practicing their talents to worry with useless things that do not interest them.

Generally, the gifted find themselves at the Brigade at an early age, not wanting to be an outsider all their lives and knowing the brigade will give them a meaning to their lives and best of all, training. To a gifted learning about what you can do is the ultimate power. Their belief in this Transcendentalist mindset is one that has helped them get to where they are now. Gifted's abilities run the psychic gambit but are capped at five abilities when they reach middle age.

The Gifted consider themselves the next evolution in Yalanzen development and tend to be more nuetral towards other races because they crave knowledge rather than any other goal. To a gifted to waste ones mind on trivial things is a sin. They simply think that it is their duty to assist others.

This does not make them good per sec, but it does mean that each of the races usually knows a gifted person or has one working for them. The gifted have a way of contacting each other and all are born with an innate ability to know what another being is just by looking at them.

That being said, gifted usually are weaker physically than other races because they spend more time training the mind rather than the body. They tend to age quicker and their mental powers usually cause them to burn out before they become particularly old. A gifted is more likely to die of some physical ailment as a result of this.

Basic Gifted Powers

• Focus - The ability to focus ones mind amidst distraction. This is what allows them to use their abilities to the fullest. This meditative state increases with age and practice. The drawback of course is it leaves them vulnerable to attack from outside sources.
  
• Fuge state - A mental storm that the gifted can tap and use to their advantage. It usually is tied to their primary power and has aspects of that power when it is released. Overuse of this power can cause the gifted to burn out and or suffer from brain hemorrhaging if not death.
  
• Sensing - The ability to tell what another being is. This ability might manifest through musical notes that sound off in ones brain or aura site but the end result is the same. Gifted know what a person is regardless of human seeming.
  
• Knowledge Absorption - The ability to absorb knowledge from texts. This can be done with most forms of writing and is held in the Gifted's mind until the next time they use this power. Usually they can only retain one text at a time with this power.
  
• Power Focus - Every gifted has an ability that is unique to them. This can be from a wide range of psychic powers but it is this focus that most of their strength is actualized.
