It was time to join the Brigade.
Jace had been contemplating it for a while, about 20 years or so, and he finally decided to go for it. He'd observed them from afar and even had a few run ins. The Brigade members intrigued him. They were different from most Yalanzens in that they were more curious, more open to the other races. They also had access to portals, and sometimes even visited other worlds and dimensions. Seeing another world would be interesting indeed. In addition they could be trained in magic and sorcery and all sorts of other interesting tidbits. Although of course he would best them in most areas, perhaps there was something he could learn. Or at least something to stay amused with.
He walked around the building, eventually deciding to go inside. Unbeknownst to him, the younglings of the Brigade were in classes, and most others were out on patrols. There was a simple sort of spell on the door, something any magic user could easily subvert. So he did and went inside.
It was a learning place of some sort, filled with shelves of beakers and little boxes of herbs and a lot of books. Obviously some sort of potions or spell hall. He had a feeling he could spend a lot of time in here. The hall was large, and there were few people inside. Some gave him a glance, but then turned back to their studies. Obviously not a high security area.
He walked over to a nearby shelf and pulled off a spell book. An old one, but a classic. He remembered reading it himself a number of years before. Remembered it perfectly, in fact. This was a newer version, had obviously been copied with care from the old. Putting it back, he pulled another off the shelf and opened it, beginning to read. New spells were always useful, especially when one never forgot.
